I went to lake cottage last evening because the weather was clear and sunny, even if pretty cold (+3 C) Of course the cottage was cold, too, but happily there is enough radiators, so it warms quite quickly. Actually during the time I made a walk with the doggie and enjoyed sauna, the cottage was nice and warm. Around 9pm I left Giusto the dog in and took my camera and tripod and walked 70 m to the lakebay which opens towards North. Stars were shining bright the moon was about a half and after some 15 minutes the first green glow slowly appeared behind the forest. There wasnt no wind, so the lake was like a mirror reflecting the Northern lights, aurora borealis, from the sky. Must say I was pretty thrilled, because this was my very first time to see and photograph aurora borealis in this location very dear to me. The cottage belongs to my parents, so I have been the summers there all my life, but visiting rarely in the autumn time. – that will probably change now 🙂
The aurora borealis display was not very dense , and camera sensor catches the colours well during 15-20 sec exposures, but still it was a show to remember a long time. I was a bit sorry to leave around 11:30 pm , but it was great to enter a cosy, warm cottage and meet a sleepy dog greeting me with tail wagging… A quick look at the camera screen (and social media update) and a dive between the sheets smiling gleefully
