This weekend we had pretty nice weather when we spend time at the cottage. We have there a small rowing boat and 2.5 hp motor, ideal for discovering the large lake. We were cruising along a bay which have lots of reed growing onshore, trying to search for some water birds. Then suddenly we came across two cranes resting and feeding. We turned off the engine and watched these beautiful birds from about 30-40 meters. I have never been able to seen cranes to close before, because on land they are very alert and fly away very early if approached. There was practically no wind , or waves but it was still surprisingly difficult to take photos from a boat with 400mm +1.4 extender attached to a Canon 7dii body. I just fired away in short bursts and it really paid off, in that way I managed to have enough sharp images. They were quite relaxed with our company, but because it was early afternoon the light was not great, we decided to move on and not to bother them longer. Anyway it was really memorable encounter with this majestic birds.
