Lets start with obligatory black and white edit, because it kinda fits the weather we had..
We had a foggy morning photoshoot with Giusto this morning. All the snow is gone, so the scenery is absolutely grey and dull… I took my Canon 580ii flashes and stands with me, and we walked a couple of hundred meters away from home to the forest. There is a place which is actually an old sandpit, so its a silent and safe place to let Giusto off the leash. At first he of course needed to check the surroundings and make his circles, but pretty soon he was ready for the job as a model. Oh, and how nice, calm and patient he posed for me. I placed him standing or sitting on a small sandpile, and then played with the flashes around him. I managed to make different photos with different light set-ups, either two off-camera flashes or with just one . The mist in the air and his breathing steam made nice effect with the flash lights. We took few photos and then I let him running and sniffing around and then placed him again while adjusting the lights. I liked the most of the frames where one of the flashes was just behind his back, giving a gloving hair around his head. On that flash I didn’t have any modifier, but on the one which was pointing towards him from 45 degrees from his right, was a small soft box. It was tricky to adjust the power of that flashgun to give enough light to his head and eyes, but not to blow out all the white wet hair. I somehow succeeded, I think.
In the post processing I tried a couple of different ways, either more or less contrasty. To be honest I surprised myself how little work there was in Lightroom or Photoshop with these shots. I shot with highspeed sync so the background was already dark in camera. Needed to bring the highlights down in some of these and add a bit of sharpness.
