Snowfall deicing in Helsinki mid January

The worse is the weather, the better it is for my likes. Many times aviation photography is just blue skies and a white plane. I think that (the most times)it  is not anything for my. So when I figured that a real snow blizzard was about to hit Southern Finland a week ago, I thought it might bring some great photo opportunities in Helsinki Airport. Lucky enough the runway 04R was in use for departures, meaning that deicing area 8 got the job done. It is located conveniently at the end of 04R/22L and next to it there is pretty high rocky area, so it is easy to shoot over the fences. Actually the angle to the stands from the shooting point is almost eye level or a bit descending.  

These shots are taken with Canon 5Dmark 3 and Canon 70-200/f2.8 IS@130-200mm, the set up was mounted on a tripod and exposure was around 6-10 sec f/9-13 ISO100

Mitä kehnompi keli sitä parempi mieleiseeni konekuvaukseen. Monesti ilmailukuvaus on vain valkoinen kone sinistä taivoa vasten. Mielestäni se on (useimminten) sangen tylsää. siispä kun kuulin, että kunnon lumimyteri saavuttaa Helsingin, ajattelin heti, että siitäpä mainio kuvausmahdollisuus. Onneksi tuulensuunta oli itäinen joten kiitotie 04R(ight) oli käytössä ja silloin myös jäänpoistoalue 8 aktiivinen. Ko. alue on kätevästi kiitotien päässä ja vieressä on kivan korkea kallio, josta on mukava kuvata. Kuvauskulma on lähes tasoissa tai hieman alaviistoon aitojen yli.

Nämä ruudut on otettu Canon 5dmark3 ja Canon 70-200/f2.8IS optiikalla. Kamera oli jalustalla ja valotusaika useimmiten 6-10 sekuntiin, aukko 9-13 ISO100
